Good practice after each NestEgg upgrade

Sometimes a website does not display up to date information. This can particularly be the case after the website has been updated or new functionality has been added.

This is because, to speed up web browsing, your browser (e.g. Google Chrome, Firefox etc) saves copies of the website data to your device. This is known as the 'Cache'.
When you load the website in future, you are often viewing the images and elements that are stored on your device, rather than loading them directly from the website.
This makes browsing the internet much faster, but can lead to the website not displaying or functioning as it should.

We recommend that you pay close attention to the screenshots and/or demonstration videos that we include in our release notes. If your visual experience looks distorted or differs from what is shown in our help screenshots, then it is likely that your cache is preventing the page from loading correctly.

How to ensure NestEgg functionality displays properly? Clear your cache

The solution to such a problem is simple, refresh / clear your Cache.

In most browsers on PC or Mac, you can do this by holding down the Shift key on your keyboard and clicking on the reload icon in the browsers toolbar:

You can also, depending on your device and browser, use the following shortcuts:

  • When using Chrome, Firefox, or Edge on a Windows PC or Laptop: Press Ctrl+F5 (If that doesn’t work, try Shift+F5 or Ctrl+Shift+R).

  • When using Chrome or Firefox for Mac: Press Shift+Command+R.

  • When using Safari for Mac: There is no simple keyboard shortcut to force a hard refresh. Instead, press Command+Option+E to empty the cache, then hold down Shift and click Reload in the toolbar.

  • When using Safari for iPhone and iPad: You’ll have to dig into settings to erase your browser’s cache. Howtogeek.com has a great article on how to this if you need it: How to Clear History, Cache, and Cookies in Safari on iPhone or iPad

What to do if keyboard shortcuts are unavailable or don't work for you

Should you be unable to use keyboard shortcuts for whatever reason, or they just didn't work, you can also refresh the Cache via your browsers settings. We only support Google Chrome so highly recommend, in fact we borderline insist that you use Google Chrome as your default Browser when using our software. With that in mind; the following walk-through is assuming you are using Google Chrome (but other browsers will have similar steps):

Click on the three vertical dots in the top right corner of the browser to bring up the "Customize and Control Google Chrome" menu

Navigate to "history" in the resulting menu and either left click or hover over it to bring up the "History" menu which expands to the left.
Left click "History" in this new menu.

A new tab will open in the browser titled "History".
In the left panel will be some options, one of which will be "Clear browsing data". Left click this option.

You will then be presented with a pop-up window which may look something like this:

To ensure that NestEgg's pages will load properly, all features new and old, you only need to clear your cache. So please ensure that the Time range is set to "All time" and that you un-tick "Browsing history" and "Cookies and other site data" options.
Your pop-up should now look something like this:

If so, then you're ready to click "Clear data".
Please note that this will clear the cache for all websites you have visited. This may not be a bad thing as it will ensure the data on those sites now loads correctly too, but it will initially slow the loading time for those sites.

Was the data has cleared, reload NestEgg and the new functionality should be displaying properly and available for you to use!
